One big istake you have done is, you used your mixer when adding the flour. Ideally the flour should be added in a folding motion using a spatula. This will impact the softness of your cake. Moreover, you donot need salt at all when you make a butter cake. The flavour of the butter is strong enough to mask the saline taste of 1/4 tsp salt.
